Training

Are you unemployed, aged 16-19, and living in Hertfordshire or Bedfordshire? Would you like to join our Entry to Employment programme to learn practical skills and get a qualification? Our programme of home insulation teaches you on-the-job, and quickly, the essential skills that all employers want.

  • Customer service
  • Teamwork,
  • Working safely
  • Keeping records
  • Scheduling work
  • Looking after stocks
  • Use and care of tools and ladders
  • Thinking positively ?

In addition, you will receive weekly tuition based on the actual work you are doing, such as measuring areas, calculating the cost of materials, keeping diaries of work done and writing reports.

The course lasts for 22 weeks. Trainees have a chance to gain the Loft Insulation Procedures Open College Network award by the end of the course, a nationally recognised qualification that shows your competence in the above skills. In addition we put on special events such as first aid courses, health and safety, sport, demonstrations and interesting away days.

During your work you may be travelling throughout the county and be meeting people and making friends from a wide variety of backgrounds. Free minibus transport is provided so you don't have to be on a bus route.

When you join the course you will be introduced to your supervisor and other members of the team, be kitted out in a smart new uniform, and enrolled with a driving school; we provide weekly driving lessons if you are 17 or over and your attendance and progress are good. If you are sixteen, we can enrol you on to the CBT motorbike test instead.

This training works. We have received hundreds of letters from satisfied customers saying that the quality of service provided by trainees and their team leader is second to none because we learn to work carefully - by the training book - and do not take short cuts.

In 2005 the Adult Learning Inspectorate nominated Working Herts as "one of the best training providers in the country"

Joining is easy. If you live in Hertfordshire, call Liz Hare on 0208 207 4600, or if you live in Luton/   Bedfordshire, call Caroline at Working Luton on 01582 584200. Alternatively call in on your local Connexions Adviser who can contact us. We will arrange an interview and a free four day taster.
